Early Experience of Healing

Early Experience of Healing

I remember being about nine or ten years old. My mom had a headache, and so she was lying down in a dark room. I came up and started playing with her hair and rubbing her scalp. I imagined that I was pulling out the pain through her hair, pulling it out of her and into me.

And it worked. Her pain was eased.

In some ways it was a dangerous start to energetic healing. I didn’t learn some of the most important foundations of this kind of work until I was much older. So, I often ended up taking on the pain and experiencing it myself. There were many times when I would manage to ease out a migraine from one of my parents only to have my own flare up later in the day.yoga-man-shirtless-yellow

This is not a path to longevity as a healer. It works, but the cost is way too high. My own suffering from migraines plagued me for more than a decade as I figured out my triggers and techniques to heal without taking on the pain of others. The strongest breakthroughs were attending massage school, practicing hot yoga, and learning Reiki.

Massage taught me how the body works and broke up a lot of the worst held patterns of pain. Hot yoga taught me posture and burned out sluggish energy. Finally, Reiki taught me effective ways of healing while protecting oneself.

If you are a natural healer there are many tools and tricks to protecting yourself and avoiding burnout. Reiki, however, is one of the easiest and fastest. I would recommend it to anyone. Healing another person is a joy and a gift. It should not become a burden or cause physical pain.

Life is joy. Live joyously, my friends.
